Minions (from the white witch of narnia) visit smic 4th grade!!!
What the....?
Where did Miss G and Mrs. Liaw go?!?! Well, the day was taken over by the diligent, clever, white-haired minions of the White Witch, all the way from Cair Paravel. Not only did they teach LA all day, but the two mysterious minions brought the scrumptious Turkish Delight dessert with them. Sharing the TD left and right, with throngs of hungry children following them in the hall, the minions had quite a busy day!
Some say they came from Willy Wonka's factory. Others were sure Minion 1 and 2 were clones of LA teachers. Still others were complete puzzled as to the origins of these bizarre purveyors of Turkish Delight.
Whatever the case may be, our school was blessed by the minion visit. Hooray!

Perfectly Persuasive Essays! [November 2012]
A perfectly persuasive essay is a balance of clear and original ideas -- what do you want, why should someone give it to you, and what suggestions do you have for it? In addition, the writer must consider seriously the counterpoint of the audience.

Sports Day 2012
Oh no you don't! You leave my tail alone!
Yesterday was loads of fun, with games & activities for all to enjoy. Class 4A managed to snag 4 flags, so it was a good day.
Thanks to the school PE staff and other teachers for organizing this day for the children. And thank you to the parents who came out to support our class (I hope no one is seriously hurt!)
Best of all, we did the day in "gangnam" style!

SOAP Lessons with Mr. Russell, Student Affairs Director
Today's lesson was about how to walk in the hallways PROPERLY and making good choices wherever we go. Our 4th graders are EXPERT hallway walkers, as they have had plenty of practice already!
READ a Thon Begins Today! {9/17 - 10/17}
What a way to kick off the new school year!
Today begins our month-long celebration of reading. Ask your child about their "plan" for elevating their reading for this month. Each student is being given a tic-tac-toe board of choices for their reading goals. Everyone will set their own GOALS, which will be approved by their Language Arts teachers. Once these goals are met, he/she will receive a participation prize from the school. It should be a great challenge and tons of fun too! Stay tuned!

Welcome Back! And now begins our journey...
It is only day three of the new school year, and I am exhausted! Contrary to popular belief, the first days of school are not exactly easy. For the students, the first days are when they have to learn a couple of dozen of classroom procedures, from 4 different teachers. Not an easy feat! We teachers are busy trying to learn names, trying to teach the new procedures, and walking classes up and down the hallway.
All of this 'hard work' pays off, as the 4th graders learn their way around. Before you know it, these little ones start to act much more independent, become stronger students and understand their world better. It's exciting!
I look forward to building relationships with both students, and parents alike. See you soon!
Best,
Grace Liaw
